Why a 25+ meme ?
Being a slightly older kpop and kdrama fan I (and a few others with me) always get a little disappointed by the friending memes.
Lots of 12-17ish year olds. Nothing wrong with being that age (it's wonderful), but someone 25+ or even 35+ can get a bit
discouraged by it. At least that's how it is for me.
I suspect there might be lots of older fans, like me, who feel like that. If you're 25+ - 35+ you really don't have much in common with a
16 year old. That's a fact. It always keeps me from participating in the memes, thinking what's the use ?I'm thinking there might be more fans out there feeling the same way. So therefore the 25+ cut off. Also since this is a 25+ meme please only participate if you're in fact 25 or older !
Also this meme doesn't have a deadline. No need to comment within the first 5 mins after posting (though you're welcome to do so).
There's time zones and I assume most 25+ y.o. have college, work and families to deal with (that pesky real life !)
Please feel free to come back and check for new comments anytime, or for lazy people (like me :p) track this post for new comments ;)

Date: 2012-05-17 07:20 pm (UTC)I think fanfiction is the reason I have fandoms. And I KNOW it's the reason I have biases (this was an epiphany I had a few months ago. It totally bowled me over, too).
Most of my dreams at that time were about horses. Just wanted one so badly....
AH! that's a good reason to like it.

Date: 2012-05-17 07:34 pm (UTC)I still can't figure out why my biases are who they are or how it happened. The only one I've ficced has been Sungmin. And I don't read any kpop fic, for whatever reason -- I think because the fandom outside of fic provides me with everything I need (as opposed to TSN or Avengers or Inception or Sports RPF). But that's what I like about fandom, is that we can all own it in our own ways. /meta
My sister went through that phase, too! My dad made the mistake of showing me This Boy's Life and I became a Leo fangirl. SIGH.
That's what I thought, too.

Date: 2012-05-17 07:50 pm (UTC)On the other hand, I managed an all-blond B.A.P. in about two or three days. *gasp* Some sort of record, I think.
Oooh, SungMin is FUN. I'm more a fan of dark!Sungmin than the cutesy one, though.... But there's not much that will beat Yesung's utter fail. ^_^
I've only ever wanted to be a writer - I started writing fanfiction because I wanted to be a part of their world, you know? No matter who's world it was (Duran Duran, Def Leppard, BSB, Arashi... the list is long and varied, and totally needs to be updated).
I think, as far as Leo goes, it was The Man in the Iron Mask. Very likely. Because I LOVE The Three Musketeers.

Date: 2012-05-17 10:02 pm (UTC)I prefer dark!Sungmin as well. In fact, I strongly dislike it when he's forced to be cute. I wrote an Inception!AU with Sungmin and a zombie one that's never been posted anywhere (with a mention of Yesung).
I did a lot of reading, wrote some horrible Newsies Mary Sues and then discovered slash (again, via Newsies) and wrote the worst West Wing slash fic ever. I feel I've improved since then, LOL. I totally forgot about popslash, omg. I don't remember why I started writing, but I think it's awesome that you know why you did. And I understand wanting to be a writer, I harbor that secret dream (I long to write a YA novel).
Ahh! Makes sense to me.

Date: 2012-05-17 10:29 pm (UTC)Oh, the not-seeing-the-light-of-the-internet stories. I have a BUNCH of those. They're fun. They help me remember the fun of writing.
Ah... Yes. I did all my Mary Sues with Duran Duran when I was 13 or so, got them all out of my system. I went through the slash thing, too, and still write it some, but not as much. I just like Gen better.

Date: 2012-05-17 10:49 pm (UTC)Mostly it's because I think it might suck/characterizations are wrong/I am too lazy and also because no one ships Sungmin/Kangin. D:
I have all but stopped writing, IDK why. I mostly read slash, but I've read some good gen (in Star Trek fandom). And honestly, what I read is stuff that my sister recs me (I turned her toward the dark side). When I wrote in football/soccer RPF, I wrote het just because everyone seems to against it.

Date: 2012-05-18 01:16 am (UTC)O.o What? No one writes them right now, because Kangin's been away, but that was one of the biggest pairings when I still read suJu fanfics. But I can't find any good fics (and there is way too much pwp) so i stopped. I prefer the crack pairings, anyway - because no one writes them - and crossovers are my favorite.
YAY for Het! Good for you.

Date: 2012-05-18 01:38 am (UTC)When I posted my (one) Kangin/Sungmin fic I was told that I probably wouldn't get a lot of feedback because no one ships them. I was like ... but why not??? I think another part of the problem is that I like to write AUs and apparently that's not most people's thing (another recent discovery of mine).
IKR :D

Date: 2012-05-18 02:48 am (UTC)But, you know, the more the merrier in the "no one commenting" club. it gets bloody discouraging.
I love AUs! They're my favorite! Give me a well written AU, or crossover (I LOVE crossovers, have I mentioned that?), and I'm all over it (possibly favorite crossover ever: Upon a Fiery Steed: SG-1/Gundam Wing. Seriously. If I could write something like that, I'd.. I don't know, explode).

Date: 2012-05-18 08:48 pm (UTC)It does. The worst is that I'd write sports RPF for all of these big bangs and no one would like them. Or I wrote this huge TSN/Inception crossover fic that people didn't like or IDK. Ugh. I like grand tragedies that end bitter-sweetly, which people don't like, I guess?
OMG. I LOVE AUs. Love love love. In fact, if I could ever get myself to write, there are so many AUs that I want to write (my sticky post on LJ has a looong list of fics & pairings I want to write). I wish I knew something about Gundam Wing, because I LOVE SG-1.

Date: 2012-05-18 09:24 pm (UTC)It's hard when people are so... ungrateful. Rude. Whathaveyou. Both? *stepping off my soap box now*
I have a friend that would love your writing! She's all about angst. ^_^
You don't have to really know much about Gundam Wing to read it - maybe check up on the wiki page - because she (he?) does SUCH a good job. I'd give my eyeteeth to write something so wonderful.
We should colaborate on something, you and me. Really.

Date: 2012-05-18 09:33 pm (UTC)I think both, yes. But I guess I'll give her credit for saying something? IDK. Oh well. What's done is done.
I am definitely going to have to find this fic. My sister likes to send me SGA fic, too. LOL. I understand what you mean. I've read a lot of really good fic that makes me realize that I'm only pretending at it. :-/
O RLY. Tell me MORE. :D

Date: 2012-05-18 09:50 pm (UTC)Done is done, true. I think you should keep writing. I really do.
Okay. I found it. It's on ff.net - the first chapter is here. - don't start it until you've got a LOT of time. It's hard to stop reading it. I was just glad I didn't find it until it was done.
I'm not sure there is more, but I think we could have FUN with a collaboration. We'll just have to find something fun to work with. ^_^

Date: 2012-05-19 07:15 pm (UTC)I want to ... we'll have to see. I do write non-fanfic stuff, but it doesn't see the light of day usually.
Thank you and LOL! I've bookmarked it for when I have a lot of time.
Oh, man. I'm totally excited now. :D :D

Date: 2012-05-19 09:20 pm (UTC)Ooooh! Original stuff is so hard. I usually save that for Nano - just because I find I need that push. At some point, here, though, I have to make the definite transition. Especially because I really do want to get published.
Bookmarking it was a good idea - I started rereading it and wound up staying up until midnight finishing.....
Me too!

Date: 2012-05-20 01:09 pm (UTC)I try to do it, too. But I suck so bad. I'm best at reviews for stuff written by my friends, lulz.
I did nano for a couple of years, but last year I just couldn't do it and I dropped out of all of my big bangs, D: so now, if I write, I just write when I feel like it instead of pressuring myself (though I do well when I do that, too). Oh, man, I would LOVE to be published. Gah.
LOLOL seriously.

Date: 2012-05-21 07:31 pm (UTC)You know, I went through a time where I couldn't get anything done, too. i currently have six ideas floating around in my head, and I need to get them all out and on paper - even just notes - so I don't lose them. That would be horrible....
I don't write as much or as regularly as I would like to. I have got to get off Tumblr.... too much there!

Date: 2012-05-21 11:32 pm (UTC)I just find myself waiting until the time is right for me to write. I just wish I knew what that would be.
Oh, god. Tumblr = huge time suck.
