Why a 25+ meme ?

Being a slightly older kpop and kdrama fan I (and a few others with me) always get a little disappointed by the friending memes.
Lots of 12-17ish year olds.  Nothing wrong with being that age (it's wonderful), but someone 25+ or even 35+ can get a bit
discouraged by it. At least that's how it is for me.
I suspect there might be lots of older fans, like me, who feel like that. If you're 25+ - 35+ you really don't have much in common with a
16 year old. That's a fact. It always keeps me from participating in the memes, thinking what's the use ?I'm thinking there might be more fans out there feeling the same way. So therefore the 25+ cut off. Also since this is a 25+ meme please only participate if you're in fact 25 or older !

Also this meme doesn't have a deadline. No need to comment within the first 5 mins after posting (though you're welcome to do so).
There's time zones and I assume most 25+ y.o. have college, work and families to deal with (that pesky real life !)

Please feel free to come back and check for new comments anytime, or for lazy people (like me :p) track this post for new comments ;)

I can't deal with most girl groups because they're so... girly. After School was awesome (haven't heard much lately), and BEG I loved until they went utterly slutty (so disappointing). 2NE1 still rocks, though. I've been tempted by 4MInute just because they had the brilliance to put JungShin in an MV, and Secret seems cool. f(x) had a cool song, but I never actually followed up on that.

I think fanfiction is the reason I have fandoms. And I KNOW it's the reason I have biases (this was an epiphany I had a few months ago. It totally bowled me over, too).

Most of my dreams at that time were about horses. Just wanted one so badly....

AH! that's a good reason to like it.

I totally understand what you're saying. Ugh, girl groups have issues everywhere and it makes me sad. I need to watch that 4Minute video just because he's in it .... I am also too lazy to get into most girl groups. Learning to tell SJ apart was hard enough! :P

I still can't figure out why my biases are who they are or how it happened. The only one I've ficced has been Sungmin. And I don't read any kpop fic, for whatever reason -- I think because the fandom outside of fic provides me with everything I need (as opposed to TSN or Avengers or Inception or Sports RPF). But that's what I like about fandom, is that we can all own it in our own ways. /meta

My sister went through that phase, too! My dad made the mistake of showing me This Boy's Life and I became a Leo fangirl. SIGH.

That's what I thought, too.

For me it's not so much laziness as no interest. It's all about the music first, and if it doesn't grab me, there's no point if learning the people. It took me three weeks to get SuJu down, so I get it.

On the other hand, I managed an all-blond B.A.P. in about two or three days. *gasp* Some sort of record, I think.

Oooh, SungMin is FUN. I'm more a fan of dark!Sungmin than the cutesy one, though.... But there's not much that will beat Yesung's utter fail. ^_^

I've only ever wanted to be a writer - I started writing fanfiction because I wanted to be a part of their world, you know? No matter who's world it was (Duran Duran, Def Leppard, BSB, Arashi... the list is long and varied, and totally needs to be updated).

I think, as far as Leo goes, it was The Man in the Iron Mask. Very likely. Because I LOVE The Three Musketeers.

LOL I understand, though. I don't remember how long it took me to get SJ down. I also remember having a lot of trouble with ss501, because in a lot of their earlier photoshoots, they all had the Same Hair. But I got over that pretty quickly, and then spent a week sending random ss501 pictures to my RL friend and making her figure which boy was which :D I think the only newish group I sort of know the same of would be NU'EST, but mostly I just want to whisk them away to somewhere safe, because they always look miserable.

I prefer dark!Sungmin as well. In fact, I strongly dislike it when he's forced to be cute. I wrote an Inception!AU with Sungmin and a zombie one that's never been posted anywhere (with a mention of Yesung).

I did a lot of reading, wrote some horrible Newsies Mary Sues and then discovered slash (again, via Newsies) and wrote the worst West Wing slash fic ever. I feel I've improved since then, LOL. I totally forgot about popslash, omg. I don't remember why I started writing, but I think it's awesome that you know why you did. And I understand wanting to be a writer, I harbor that secret dream (I long to write a YA novel).

Ahh! Makes sense to me.

I could always tell who YoungSaeng was because he looked like a mirror image of Yesung. I didn't actually try to figure out who was who until my massive crack!fic for Nano in 2009. And i know in one section I still got HyunJoong and HyungJoon mixed up - their names, anyway.

Oh, the not-seeing-the-light-of-the-internet stories. I have a BUNCH of those. They're fun. They help me remember the fun of writing.

Ah... Yes. I did all my Mary Sues with Duran Duran when I was 13 or so, got them all out of my system. I went through the slash thing, too, and still write it some, but not as much. I just like Gen better.

I noticed in the promos for his new album (which, omg, can't wait), he totally looks like Yesung -- and it's kinda super hot. And awwwww, their names ARE confusing. And man, I feel like such a newbie, since I've only been into kpop since last fall. :-/

Mostly it's because I think it might suck/characterizations are wrong/I am too lazy and also because no one ships Sungmin/Kangin. D:

I have all but stopped writing, IDK why. I mostly read slash, but I've read some good gen (in Star Trek fandom). And honestly, what I read is stuff that my sister recs me (I turned her toward the dark side). When I wrote in football/soccer RPF, I wrote het just because everyone seems to against it.

It's okay. I still do sometimes, too, until I realize it's been... really long.

O.o What? No one writes them right now, because Kangin's been away, but that was one of the biggest pairings when I still read suJu fanfics. But I can't find any good fics (and there is way too much pwp) so i stopped. I prefer the crack pairings, anyway - because no one writes them - and crossovers are my favorite.

YAY for Het! Good for you.

That's how I feel about being a fan of cycling. I'm like, oh, I don't know anything I've only been a fan since ... ... 2003. And then I'm kind of like, omg, where has all the time gone?

When I posted my (one) Kangin/Sungmin fic I was told that I probably wouldn't get a lot of feedback because no one ships them. I was like ... but why not??? I think another part of the problem is that I like to write AUs and apparently that's not most people's thing (another recent discovery of mine).

IKR :D

Someone told you that? I'd kick them, hard. And then hit them. They used to be one of the highest written pairs.

But, you know, the more the merrier in the "no one commenting" club. it gets bloody discouraging.

I love AUs! They're my favorite! Give me a well written AU, or crossover (I LOVE crossovers, have I mentioned that?), and I'm all over it (possibly favorite crossover ever: Upon a Fiery Steed: SG-1/Gundam Wing. Seriously. If I could write something like that, I'd.. I don't know, explode).

I feel like she was kind of implying that people don't like Kangin anymore? I don't know, I haven't gone back to the fic and reread the comments in a long time. I could be getting it wrong.

It does. The worst is that I'd write sports RPF for all of these big bangs and no one would like them. Or I wrote this huge TSN/Inception crossover fic that people didn't like or IDK. Ugh. I like grand tragedies that end bitter-sweetly, which people don't like, I guess?

OMG. I LOVE AUs. Love love love. In fact, if I could ever get myself to write, there are so many AUs that I want to write (my sticky post on LJ has a looong list of fics & pairings I want to write). I wish I knew something about Gundam Wing, because I LOVE SG-1.

Bah. I don't care. The thing is, when people say that, even if they mean to be nice, it wounds writers. I don't think they realize that.

It's hard when people are so... ungrateful. Rude. Whathaveyou. Both? *stepping off my soap box now*

I have a friend that would love your writing! She's all about angst. ^_^

You don't have to really know much about Gundam Wing to read it - maybe check up on the wiki page - because she (he?) does SUCH a good job. I'd give my eyeteeth to write something so wonderful.

We should colaborate on something, you and me. Really.

It sucked, and it possibly may have put me off of writing. I mean, I have the inception AU that I posted, but I have this zombie one that (probably) won't be posted (if you're curious about it, I can email it).

I think both, yes. But I guess I'll give her credit for saying something? IDK. Oh well. What's done is done.

I am definitely going to have to find this fic. My sister likes to send me SGA fic, too. LOL. I understand what you mean. I've read a lot of really good fic that makes me realize that I'm only pretending at it. :-/

O RLY. Tell me MORE. :D

EXACTLY! *steps on soap box again* Seriously. I think people need to be careful - I've been writing for almost 30 years, and that sort of comment still will put me off writing. It HURTS. *hugs* Yes, I'd love to read it.

Done is done, true. I think you should keep writing. I really do.

Okay. I found it. It's on ff.net - the first chapter is here. - don't start it until you've got a LOT of time. It's hard to stop reading it. I was just glad I didn't find it until it was done.

I'm not sure there is more, but I think we could have FUN with a collaboration. We'll just have to find something fun to work with. ^_^

What's yr email address? (if you don't feel comfortable sharing it publicly, just send me a message via LJ). And, yeah, I think that people can't quite find that happy medium between fangirling a fanfic and being overly critical.

I want to ... we'll have to see. I do write non-fanfic stuff, but it doesn't see the light of day usually.

Thank you and LOL! I've bookmarked it for when I have a lot of time.

Oh, man. I'm totally excited now. :D :D

*happy dancin'* I think they can't either. I don't know. I just try to give reviews I'd like to get, you know?

Ooooh! Original stuff is so hard. I usually save that for Nano - just because I find I need that push. At some point, here, though, I have to make the definite transition. Especially because I really do want to get published.

Bookmarking it was a good idea - I started rereading it and wound up staying up until midnight finishing.....

Me too!

I've sent it. <3

I try to do it, too. But I suck so bad. I'm best at reviews for stuff written by my friends, lulz.

I did nano for a couple of years, but last year I just couldn't do it and I dropped out of all of my big bangs, D: so now, if I write, I just write when I feel like it instead of pressuring myself (though I do well when I do that, too). Oh, man, I would LOVE to be published. Gah.

LOLOL seriously.

Date: 2012-05-21 07:31 pm (UTC)

Well, yes, I agree. it is easier to write reviews for friends (although I suck at that, too).

You know, I went through a time where I couldn't get anything done, too. i currently have six ideas floating around in my head, and I need to get them all out and on paper - even just notes - so I don't lose them. That would be horrible....

I don't write as much or as regularly as I would like to. I have got to get off Tumblr.... too much there!

One of the few things I like about AO3 is that you can leave kudos w/out leaving actual feedback. I am lazy :-/

I just find myself waiting until the time is right for me to write. I just wish I knew what that would be.

Oh, god. Tumblr = huge time suck.
